Most of these balloons are those falsely marketed by the balloon industry as “biodegradable latex.” All photos were taken by Balloons Blow on Hutchinson Island, Florida, USA – unless otherwise noted. All photos with citations may be used for education purposes.
Many are privy to the Pacific Garbage Patch & Japanese tsunami debris, but churning out in the Atlantic (and in all oceans) is a plastic soup. Strong east winds & strong tides have washed all this ashore on this beautiful, desolate beach. A one-mile walk yielded this pile of single-use plastic bottles, plastic caps, plastic straws, plastic utensils, shoes, globs of oil, yards of rope, fishing line & more Caribbean debris. Please refuse single-use plastics! 47 freakin’ balloons – 45 latex & 2 Mylar.
