Mike – Hampden Fire Department Saves Bird

June 6, 2015

Mike - Hamden Fire Department in ConnecticutOur friend Mike with the Hamden Fire Department in Connecticut rescued this little robin from a balloon’s long ribbon. Tangled high up in a tree, the poor little bird struggled for more than a day. When the crew responded to the call, they found the bird in distress, hanging upside down. They improvised a rescue device and lowered the struggling bird to firefighters Mike and Fernando, who carefully untangled the bird from the long ribbon wrapped tightly around its leg – the remnant of the latex balloon was apparent. After resting for a moment, the precious bird flew away. Fortunately, this beautiful bird was saved. Many animals are not so lucky. Much respect, guys, for saving our bird friend’s life.

Many people intentionally release balloons, saying “it’s only one,” not being mindful – it only takes one balloon to take another life. Releasing a balloon risks sending a death trap into an innocent creature’s home.
